NASCAR Honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on #MLKDay with Local Drives to Support the Unhoused in Charlotte and Daytona

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 20, 2025, NASCAR is taking a significant step in honoring the legacy of the civil rights leader by hosting local drives aimed at supporting the unhoused in two of its major office locations: Charlotte, North Carolina, and Daytona Beach, Florida. This initiative is part of the organization’s broader commitment to community service and social responsibility, with a focus on providing much-needed supplies to those in need.

In the spirit of Dr. King’s enduring message of equality, justice, and community service, NASCAR employees across both cities are coming together to collect essential items such as food, clothing, blankets, hygiene products, and other supplies for individuals experiencing homelessness. The drives are being organized at the NASCAR offices in both Charlotte and Daytona, where employees have generously donated their time and resources to make a positive impact on the lives of the unhoused.

In Charlotte, the drive is being coordinated with the help of local organizations that work closely with the homeless population. Volunteers are collecting supplies that will be distributed through shelters and outreach programs throughout the city. In Daytona, NASCAR employees are partnering with similar groups to ensure the donations reach those who need them most, especially during the colder winter months when the challenges faced by unhoused individuals are heightened.

“Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose work for justice, equality, and service to others continues to inspire us,” said Steve Phelps, President of NASCAR. “In the spirit of Dr. King, NASCAR is committed to making a difference in our communities. These drives are just one example of how we can all contribute to creating positive change and supporting those who are struggling, especially in these difficult times.”

The timing of the event is especially significant. As the nation reflects on Dr. King’s contributions to civil rights and his call for social justice, NASCAR’s local office drives provide a tangible way to give back to the communities where the organization has a presence. The outreach efforts reflect the ongoing commitment by NASCAR to promote inclusion and serve underrepresented and vulnerable populations, aligning with the broader goals of equity and justice championed by Dr. King.

Employees are encouraged to donate items, and NASCAR is also extending the invitation for fans and the public to contribute to the efforts. The company is leveraging its social media platforms and online channels to raise awareness and encourage donations. Additionally, several of NASCAR’s partners and sponsors have expressed their support for the initiative, amplifying the impact of the event.

Beyond the one-day collection, NASCAR is dedicated to long-term community involvement. The organization regularly participates in local charity initiatives and social impact programs, working alongside other companies and nonprofit groups to create sustainable change. By bringing together its workforce and the larger community, NASCAR aims to contribute meaningfully to addressing the ongoing challenges faced by the unhoused.

This year’s #MLKDay drive serves as a reminder of Dr. King’s powerful message that “life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” NASCAR’s efforts are a direct answer to that call, exemplifying the collective power of communities coming together to uplift those in need. As NASCAR continues to honor Dr. King’s legacy, it remains dedicated to fostering a culture of service and social responsibility both on and off the track.
