He Waves GoodBye: Sheffield Wednesday’s $17.34 Million Playmaker BIDS Farewell

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has spoken of the importance that Bailey Cadamarteri gets as much game time as possible as a loan exit beckons.

Sheffield Wednesday have been mainly focused on bringing players in at Hillsborough this summer

Manager Danny Rohl has certainly been backed in the transfer market and there could be more new signings yet. There is now an active focus on getting some players off the books though, with the Owls squad bloated in some areas after a host of additions.

Among the areas where departures are likely is up top. Bailey Cadamarteri has been heavily linked with a loan move away from the Championship club with Wrexham, Huddersfield Town, Stockport County and Blackpool among those said to be keen.

Cadamarteri made an eye-catching break into the Sheffield Wednesday first-team last season but with more depth added up top, his game time could be limited this time around.

The aim is to send him out on loan, but manager Rohl has now spoken openly about the importance of him getting meaningful minutes away from Hillsborough. Speaking to The Star, he said he and Cadamarteri have spoken about a temporary move, with some advice over where to head.

Here’s what Rohl had to say on the Sheffield Wednesday starlet:

“We know the strengths of Bailey and which kind of football is good for him to get a lot of situations where he can improve.

“For me the most important point for Bailey is that he gets game time and this means not just 10 minutes or 15 minutes, it means being a starter and delivering again and again. This will be helpful.

“I think Bailey will choose the right club, I have given him some feedback on some clubs, I think it will be a good step for him if he decides and from this point we go forward. It is also important that from this point we look out for our loan player, it means then we visit him, give him feedback and analyse.

“We will be close to him and help him, this is part of our job.”

A clear priority

There’s certainly no mistaking why Sheffield Wednesday are looking to send Cadamarteri out on loan.

The young striker is clearly a player capable of playing at a senior level on a regular basis but with a host of options up top in Rohl’s squad, he’s not going to get the chances he needs with his parent club just yet.

As such, sending him out on loan is the logical move. Dropping him back into the youth academy with some appearances off the bench will not help his growth, but it does mean they have to be very careful with who Cadamarteri joins.

Sending him somewhere where he can become the go-to man up top is a must.

As such, while League One admirers Wrexham, Huddersfield Town, Blackpool and Stockport County might be attractive options, there may be better clubs to consider. All of those sides already have strikers who can lock down the starting spot, so Cadamarteri could find starts harder to come by.

Rohl’s options

Sheffield Wednesday have a couple of strikers already ahead of Cadamarteri in the pecking order and another signing is wanted.

Ike Ugbo is working his way back to full fitness after joining from ESTAC Troyes on a permanent basis following his fruitful loan. Jamal Lowe and Charlie McNeill have both joined on free transfers too.

Michael Smith is still on the books but like Cadamarteri, he could leave and is wanted elsewhere.
