Iowa County Humane Society organizes ‘Clear the Shelters’ event
DODGEVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) – On Saturday, August 17th. The Iowa County Humane Society hosted their annual ‘Clear the Shelters’ event.
This is a nationwide event where the goal is to make space for new animals to come in, while making sure current shelter residents find a loving home.
Hannah Guenther is the kennel manager for the shelter. She says shelters regularly fill up this time of year.
“It’s important that we have a time set aside that we try to push adoptions,” Guenther said. “When we have shelters fill up, it’s super hard to get them adopted out.”
She adds, “the faster we can get these animals out, the more we can help bring in and save.”
Saturday, the ICHS hosted a raffle, concession stand and garage sale along with their Clear the Shelter event. This was a way for them to have all proceeds go directly to the humane society. It was also their “name your price” adoption day.
“Cats, dogs, kittens and puppies, name your price. So you can come in, find a dog that you like and it could be a dollar,” says Guenther.
For those not thinking about adopting right now, staff member like Macy Ahrens says to still stop by for their upcoming events
“Socializing for these animals is super important too so that they are ready for a home environment.” Ahrens said. “The shelter is very high stress and high anxiety, so seeing a new and friendly face for these animals is so important, so then they are ready for the home.”
