GOOD NEWS: Seattle Seahawks Announce Shocking Blockbuster Deal Of $45M

Seahawks All-22 Review: The good and bad from the Seahawks rookies vs. Patriots

The Seahawks are 2-0 on the season after their win in Foxborough, how did our rookies play?

It was a close win for the Seattle Seahawks, just as we anticipated in the preview. There’s a lot of room for improvement, but now it’s time to fix those issues with a 2-0 start.

Let’s take a look at the good and bad from the game with our rookie class of 2024.

Byron Murphy II, DT

Byron Murphy played 38 defensive snaps. He was the second interior defensive lineman with the most snaps, behind only Leonard Williams, who had 52.

He had 4 tackles, 0.5 sack, 1 TFL, 4 pressures (1 sack, 3 hurries. He also led the team in run stops with 3 (tied with Jarran Reed, Julian Love, Tyrel Dodson and Rayshawn Jenkins).

This play ended up being nullified by a (silly) foul by Devon Witherspoon, but it doesn’t take away from the magic of Byron Murphy’s explosion on the field. He uses a rip move combined with his excellent first step. The OL manages to “recover” in the middle of traffic, but Murphy looks like a shark that smelled blood in the water and goes after his prey.

He starts the play with a shutter step and manages to quickly get away from the OL. The detail of this play is that at a certain point, Leo Williams is blocked by three OLs and still arrives to split the sack.

Note: Derick Hall improvised a stunt, but I believe he attacked the wrong gap, going to the same one as Murphy. If he had gone to the next one, he might have gotten the sack.

The Patriots call a sweep on this play with the center and left guard pulling. Murphy II is on the 1-tech and the right guard has to make a cut block, but the DT is very athletic and agile, escaping easily and having a clear path to tackle the running back.
