No stranger to the pages of HOT ROD, Troy Ladd graced us with his presence in our makeshift podcast studio on day three of last November’s Power Tour West. Troy is the founder of Hollywood Hot Rods, which has been building high-end cars since 2002. Among the shop’s accolades over the years, Troy can claim both the America’s Most Beautiful Roadster and Al Slonaker Memorial Awards at the Grand National Roadster Show, and many more on top of that.

Troy left a construction business to strike out on his own with a modest loan and a business plan. A self-taught hobbyist, Troy managed to turn a passion for building cars into a successful operation that has maintained high standards of excellence since the beginning. Troy talks with us about how he started his business, how it has evolved over the years, and how he maintains the quality of work he and his shop are known for. It’s a great conversation, hilarious at times, but Troy has lots of wisdom to impart, too.
