Stevie Wonder knows about the jokes and rumors regarding his blindness.

During a recent show on his Love, Light and Song UK Tour at Blackweir Fields in Cardiff, Wales, the 25-time Grammy winner, 75, joked about the rumors he can actually see before offering sweet comments on how blindness has made his life special.

“I must say to all of you, something that I was thinking, ‘When did I want to let the world know this?’ But I wanted to say it right now,” began Wonder on stage, according to a video of the moment shared to social media.

“You know there have been rumors about me seeing and all that? But seriously, you know the truth,” continued the “Superstition” artist to laughs from the audience.

“Truth is shortly after my birth I became blind,” Wonder said. “Now, that was a blessing because it’s allowed me to see the world in the vision of truth, of sight. See people in the spirit of them, not how they look. Not what color they are, but what color is their spirit?”

The R&B legend has a great sense of humor when it comes to jokes about his blindness. While presenting Jamie Foxx with the Ultimate Icon Award at the 2025 BET Awards, Wonder spoke about going “way back” with the multi-hyphenate.

“He hit me up because of his win — Academy Award — for Ray. And I said, ‘You know Jamie, just because you play a blind man that don’t mean that we’re besties, okay?'” he quipped.

Later in the speech, Wonder jokingly praised Foxx’s “love for blind people.”

One celebrity who recently made a joke about Wonder’s inability to see was Justin Bieber. Back in April, the “Peaches” artist screenshot of himself appearing to call Wonder on FaceTime with a playful comment about his lifelong blindness.

“This fool never sees my facetimessss,” wrote Bieber in text displayed over a photo of himself smiling at the camera, seemingly waiting for Wonder to answer the call. He soundtracked the clip with the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s song “Overjoyed.”

In a 2024 conversation with journalist Wesley Morris and Barack Obama for The Wonder of Stevie podcast, Wonder recalled his early childhood. “I was born. Shortly after that, I’m blind. My mother went through the different things, and so my experience with that was deep,” he said at the time.

Wonder explained his mom would cry “every night” until one time when he said “Mama, you shouldn’t cry, you’re making my head hurt.”

“And I said, ‘Maybe God has something for me that’s bigger than all this,’” the icon recalled, adding, “History proved that true.”
