Good News | Toby King could return for Warrington Wolves against Salford Red Devils on Friday..
WARRINGTON Wolves coming through a week with no fresh injury concerns to deal with has been a rare occurrence of late.
However, that is the position they find themselves in this week, with head coach Sam Burgess confirming he is set to choose from an unchanged pool of players for Friday’s trip to Salford Red Devils.
There were concerns either side of Saturday’s victory over Hull FC, with centre Toby King and prop Joe Philbin left out of the 17 before Rodrick Tai was brought off during the second half of the 24-10 win.
All three had unspecified knocks but during his weekly pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Burgess confirmed all three will be available to him for the trip to the Salford Community Stadium.
“They’re all okay. They’re all available to play but it just depends what we do with them,” Burgess said of King, Philbin and Tai.
“We’re not sure how the team is going to look yet but we’ll be relatively strong.
“We came through the game healthy, which is nice.”
Warrington Wolves long-term absentee ‘ahead of schedule’
Burgess also provided an update on the fitness of youngster Cai Taylor-Wray, whom he said was ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn hamstring.
When the livewire full-back first suffered the injury while playing for the reserves in April, he had been expected to miss the remainder of the season but The Wire posted a picture of the 19-year-old back running again on their social media pages last week.
And while he insisted no undue risks would be taken with him, the Warrington head coach hinted he could yet be seen again in 2025.
“The initial thoughts were that it was a very long injury and we didn’t expect him to return this year, but he is in front of his recovery process,” he said.
“It’s a conversation I need to have with the medical staff but we won’t be taking any risks with Cai.
“We’ve got to look at what he’d be trying to get back for and what he’s trying to do.
“He’s getting closer to playing but I still don’t think he’s anywhere near – he’d be at least five or six weeks is what I’m told.”
The Wire will still be without several long-term absentees – including Taylor-Wray – for the Round 17 game.
Danny Walker (knee), Leon Hayes (ankle) and Adam Holroyd (hamstring) are still several weeks away from being available while Matty Ashton, Oli Leyland and Arron Lindop (all ACL) are all out for the remainder of the season.
