Novak Djokovic’s potential path in Geneva scares

After disappointing expectations with poor performances in both Monte Carlo and Madrid, Novak Djokovic will try to get a positive result at the Geneva ATP 250 next week. The Serbian legend – who chose to skip the Rome Masters 1000 and end his partnership with Andy Murray – has accepted a wild card from the organizers and will play the Swiss tournament as he did last year.

The former world No.1 has admitted that he will not be among the top favorites at Roland Garros, which is one of his main goals this year, but we know how much Nole’s level can rise exponentially in Grand Slam tournaments. The 37-year-old from Belgrade is not having a good season, but he played one of his best tournaments at the Australian Open where he reached the semifinals after eliminating the young Spanish champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Novak has been practicing in Belgrade for the past few days and absolutely needs to play some competitive matches before the French Open, where he will not be seeded and could have a particularly tough draw.

For this reason, the 24-time Grand Slam champion will have to arrive in Paris prepared from a technical and mental point of view.

Nole’s path in Geneva

In the meantime, the Geneva ATP 250 draw has been drawn and there will be no shortage of insidious obstacles on the Serbian’s path.

Djokovic will have a bye in the first round, before making his debut against the winner of the match between Fucsovics and Bergs. His opponent in the quarterfinals will probably be one of Gaston, Marozsan and Arnaldi, who defeated him in the second round of the Mutua Madrid Open a short time ago.

His most likely rival in the semifinals is Machac, who beat him in Geneva a year ago, but Popyrin (capable of eliminating the Serbian at the 2024 US Open) should not be underestimated either. If he reaches the final, the former world No.1 could face Fritz or Khachanov.

The tournament will end the day before the start of the French Open, where the legend from Belgrade will try to lift his fourth career trophy.
