Ex Washington Star Running Back Arrested For Drunk Driving

Former Washington Redskins’ running back Adrian Peterson was arrested for drunk driving after attending an NFL Draft party in Minneapolis.

NFL fifth all-time leading rusher and former Washington Redskins’ running back Adrian Peterson was arrested Friday morning in Minnesota and charged with misdemeanor fourth-degree driving while impaired. Peterson had attended the Minnesota Vikings’ public draft party Thursday night at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, and was pulled over while driving 83 mph in a 55 mph zone.

 

State Patrol Lt. Mike Lee told the Minnesota Star Tribune that a trooper administered a preliminary breath test that measured his blood alcohol content at 0.14 percent. The legal limit for driving in Minnesota is 0.08 percent.

He was received into custody at 5:16 a.m. CST and released on a $4,000 bond at 7:31 a.m. CST. His court date is May 9.

 

Peterson had a 15-year NFL career playing for seven teams including the Redskins for two seasons. In 31 games from 2018-19 on two bad teams coached by Jay Gruden, he rushed for 1,940 yards and 12 touchdowns.

 

His career total rushing yards of 14,918 rank behind only Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton, Frank Gore and Barry Sanders. He retired in 2021.

 

This is the latest in a number of incidents Peterson, now 40, has been involved in over the years, including domestic violence, child abuse and financial issues.
