Jeff Lynne’s ELO — the reformed version of the English rock band Electric Light Orchestra — needed to cancel their final show.
In a statement shared with PEOPLE on Saturday, July 12, a spokesperson for the concert series at BST Hyde Park said that Jeff Lynne was “heartbroken,” but couldn’t perform at the band’s final concert at BST Hyde Park in London on Sunday, July 13.
“Jeff Lynne is heartbroken to report that he will not be able to perform at tomorrow’s BST Hyde Park show,” the statement began. “Jeff has been battling a systemic infection and is currently in the care of a team of doctors who have advised him that performing is simply not possible at this time nor will he be able to reschedule.”
It continued: “The legacy of the band and his longtime fans are foremost in Jeff’s mind today — and while he is so sorry that he cannot perform, he knows that he must focus on his health and rehabilitation at this time.”
According to the rep, ticket holders will receive refunds and will be contacted directly by their ticket agent with further details.
Reps for Lynne, 77, have not yet responded to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.
In July 2024, the singer-songwriter was forced to cancel an ELO performance at Manchester’s Co-Op Live “due to illness” amid an extended run of dates for the band’s Over and Out farewell tour.
“Jeff is devastated he cannot perform this evening,” he shared at the time in a post on X.
In 1970, Lynne founded the Electric Light Orchestra with Roy Wood and Bev Bevan. Throughout their tenure, the band released four U.S. platinum records, including 1976’s A New World Record, 1977’s Out of the Blue, 1979’s Discovery, and 1980’s Xanadu. The group split in 1986.
Lynne formed Jeff Lynne’s ELO in 2014, releasing two albums under the reformed group, with 2015’s Alone in the Universe and 2019’s From Out of Nowhere.
He was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2020.
