Newcastle Knights vs Manly Sea Eagles at McDonald Jones Stadium, 7:50pm

Knights team: 1. Kalyn Ponga 2. James Schiller 3. Dane Gagai 4. Kyle McCarthy 5. Fletcher Hunt 6. Fletcher Sharpe 7. Jack Cogger 8. Tyson Frizell 9. Phoenix Crossland 10. Brodie Jones 11. Dylan Lucas 12. Kai Pearce-Paul 13. Mathew Croker 14. Jayden Brailey 15. Thomas Cant 16. Jermaine McEwen 17. Elijah Leaumoana 18. Jackson Hastings 19. Tyrone Thompson 20. Matthew Arthur 21. Wil Sullivan 22. Greg Marzhew

Analysis: Jackson Hastings has been named 18th Man in the clearest indication yet that he could be about to play his first NRL game of the season as coach Adam O’Brien makes yet another halves change. Hastings has reportedly fallen out with senior teammates over a personal matter and O’Brien has so far refused to pick him, despite the fact the halfback is earning $800,000 this season. The polarising playmaker might not be the best halfback in the NRL but there’s a strong argument to be made he’s the best in Newcastle. The 4-8 Knights are 15th on the ladder and make no mistake, O’Brien is coaching for his future in the coming months, so if the losses continue then Hastings will be playing soon or later. In a much-needed boost, Queensland No. 1 Kalyn Ponga returns which sees Fletcher Sharpe shift back to five-eighth and Jack Cogger to halfback, with Tyson Gamble (thumb) out. Leo Thompson (suspended) is out for the next four weeks and it’s Brodie Jones who comes into the front row. Second rower Elijah Salesa-Leaumoana will make his NRL debut off the bench, while Greg Marhew (knee) is nearing a return and has been named on the extended bench. Jack Hetherington (shoulder) is also out.

Sea Eagles team: 1. Lehi Hopoate 2. Clayton Faulalo 3. Tolutau Koula 4. Reuben Garrick 5. Tommy Talau 6. Luke Brooks 7. Daly Cherry-Evans 8. Ethan Bullemor 9. Lachlan Croker 10. Toafofoa Sipley 11. Haumole Olakau’atu 12. Ben Trbojevic 13. Jake Trbojevic 14. Jake Simpkin 15. Jazz Tevaga 16. Corey Waddell 17. Nathan Brown 18. Michael Chee Kam 19. Jakob Arthur 20. Navren Willett 21. Chris Patolo 22. Matthew Lodge

Analysis: Jake Trbojevic (concussion) returns but no sign of his superstar brother Tom (thigh) who is still another week away, so Lehi Hopoate remains at fullback. Jazz Tevaga shifts to the bench and Matt Lodge drops out. Front-rower Josh Aloiai (shoulder) is out which sees Toafofoa Sipley earn a recall.
