🚨 Panthers Executive Suspended Over Controversial Social Media Posts
Doug Cifu, the vice chairman and alternate governor of the Florida Panthers, has been indefinitely suspended by the NHL due to inappropriate social media posts made from his now-deleted account on X (formerly Twitter). The disciplinary action follows a contentious exchange with a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, in which Cifu responded to a provocative comparison involving playoff hits and the Israel-Palestine conflict. In one of his responses, Cifu referred to the fan as a “51st state anti semite loser,” a statement that was widely criticized and subsequently deleted. The NHL deemed these posts unacceptable and inappropriate. Cifu, who is also the CEO of Virtu Financial and a close associate of Panthers owner Vincent Viola, issued a public apology, acknowledging his behavior did not align with the standards of the Panthers or the Viola family. He expressed a commitment to working with the league to rectify the situation. An in-person meeting with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is anticipated as part of the disciplinary process.
