Marc-Andre Fleury Gives Fierce Response About Fighting Cam Talbot
Saturday’s game between the Minnesota Wild and the Detroit Red Wings escalated into a gong show. While the Red Wings led 2-1 toward the end of the second period, Wild defenseman Brock Faber suffered a monstrous hit from Alex Debrincat behind the Detroit goal. Wild skaters hunted Debrincat immediately as a melee ensued and a penalty was issued to Minnesota forward Matt Boldy.
Following the 4-3 overtime win that came on the stick of forward Marco Rossi, Minnesota goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury addressed the controversial hit on Faber, subsequent brawl and the prospect of having fought Detroit netminder Cam Talbot. “I saw Talbot with his shirt off on vacation,” Fleury said. “(Talbot) has got some big guns and is pretty ripped. So I didn’t like my odds in that one.”
Fleury, who is the second-winningest goaltender in the history of the NHL, is still waiting for his first goalie fight throughout his 21-season first-ballot Hall-of-Fame career. Talbot, however, engaged in one of the more recent goalie fights occurrences when he played for the Calgary Flames and squared off with the Edmonton Oilers’ Mike Smith on Feb. 1, 2020 The hit on Faber was magnified considering the second-year pro ate the hit and proceeded to log over 30 minutes of ice time after having played in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship just two nights prior.
“It’s a brotherhood here – we’re all family,” Faber said. “To get hit like that, and have guys step up for you, obviously I’d do the same. It means a lot. I just had my head down and I thought it was a clean hit. They had my back, though.” Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved
