Looking Good: Wrexham Set To Beat Championship Side To £500,000 Deal

Wrexham are closing in on a major incoming, as the League One side have beaten Championship opposition to their latest recruit.

Phil Parkinson’s side are currently amidst an ongoing battle to secure automatic promotion to the Championship and extend their run to three promotions on the bounce.

Despite injuries within the camp at times this season, Wrexham have utilised their powers of persuasion to sign the latest new recruit in the hope that he can take them one step closer to a dream promotion.

According to journalists Pete O’Rourke and x, Hull City winger Ryan Longman is expected to join League One side Wrexham on a permanent contract after a fee was agreed between the two clubs.

How has he fared this season?

Longman has found game time tough to come upon so far this season for the Tigers, especially after picking up form on loan at fellow Championship side Millwall last season.

After making his first league appearance in early-November, Longman has gone on to make a total of nine league outings thus far, starting six of them.

He also found the back of the net in his most recent match for Hull City as he scored the only goal of the game during a 1-0 victory against play-off chasing Blackburn Rovers.

Is this a good move on paper?

Despite having limited first-team minutes so far this season, Longman has experienced plenty of Championship football in recent campaigns and is still only 24

Wrexham and Oxford United were the two sides heavily competing for Longman’s signature for a fee of £500,000 as reported by journalist Jason Burt.

Oxford’s Tyler Goodrham faces an uncertain future at the club amongst interest from rival Championship sides, and given his position it is likely that Longman was their ideal replacement/cover.

However, it is Wrexham that are close to snapping up the 24-year-old to provide a further attacking boost to their side, competing against the divisions highest assister in the form of wing-back Ryan Barnett.

Longman has proven that he has the ability to compete in the Championship, but his lack of minutes hinted that a drop down to a promotion-chasing League One side could reignite the spark he needs to establish himself as a regular once again.
