Seattle Kraken Put Daniel Sprong On NHL Waivers Two Months After Acquiring Him
The Seattle Kraken placed Daniel Sprong on NHL waivers, the team announced on Wednesday. Within the next 24 hours, NHL teams have a chance to claim him. Otherwise, he’ll be sent down to the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds.

He hasn’t featured for the Kraken since Dec. 28, when he provided an assist in a 5-4 overtime win against his previous team, the Vancouver Canucks. In the off-season, Sprong signed a one-year, $975,000 deal with the Canucks. After scoring three points in nine games, the Canucks traded him to Seattle on Nov. 8 for future considerations. This is Sprong’s second tenure with the Kraken after the Washington Capitals previously traded him to Seattle in 2022.
Sprong has signed a one-year contract in three straight seasons. The last time he played with the comfort of a multi-year deal was with the Capitals when he signed in 2020. He has been traded four times in his career, the first time from the team that drafted him 46th overall in 2015, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Sprong hasn’t played in the AHL since the 2019-20 season with the Washington Capitals’ affiliate, the Hershey Bears. He played five games and recorded six points.
