College Football Reporter Laura Rutledge Startled Fans During Georgia-Texas
The No. 2 Texas Longhorns and No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs kicked off the SEC Championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday.
College football sideline reporter Laura Rutledge and the ESPN crew were on hand to broadcast the highly anticipated matchup, and the 36-year-old media star caught fans off guard during an early in-game report.
During the first quarter, Rutledge appeared on the TV broadcast holding a mannequin leg and foot in an effort to showcase the same brace that Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was wearing on his injured right ankle on the field.
“This is not a real leg,” Rutledge jokingly clarified to the audience. “This allows the players to return to the field earlier. It allows for explosiveness. They can still run in a way that they would be if they were healthy.”
“Glad Laura Rutledge clarified that wasn’t a real leg she was holding,” a fan wrote.
“LAURA RUTLEDGE STOLE SOMEBODY’S PROSTHETIC LEG,” CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli joked.
“‘This is not a real leg.’ Thank You Laura Rutledge I was concerned 😆,” another added.
As for the game itself, Texas entered as 2.5-point favorites, according to ESPN BET. Regardless of outcome, both historic programs are expected to secure a spot in the upcoming 12-team College Football Playoff.
