SAINTS SET FRANCHISE RECORD FOR.

The Saints (2-7) won their first two games of the season, but have been on a losing streak since their 44-19 Week 2 win over the Dallas Cowboys. The team’s seven-game losing streak is the first time since 1999 the Saints have lost seven straight games.

“Dennis has been part of our organization for many years. He is highly regarded within the NFL. He has been extremely loyal and professional and most importantly an excellent football coach for us. All of this makes today very tough for me and our organization,” Saints owner Gayle Benson said in a statement. “However, this decision is something that I felt we needed to make at this time. I wish nothing but the best in the future for Dennis and his family. He will always be considered in the highest regard by me and everyone within our organization

Allen, 52, took over as head coach of the Saints after Sean Payton stepped down in 2022. Allen had been the team’s defensive coordinator for the previous seven seasons.

Allen posted a 7-10 record in his first season and the Saints seemed to have turned the corner following a 9-8 record in 2023. However, the team hadn’t reached the playoffs in his first two seasons and he was on the hot seat going into the 2024 season.

Allen hired Klint Kubiak as the offensive coordinator during the offseason and he looked like a genius to start the season. The Saints rolled past the Panthers 47-10 to open the season and routed the Cowboys in Week 2.
Then the bottom fell out and the Saints careened toward disaster and Allen’s dismissal.
