Going into the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, nobody expected much from Alex Bowman.

Sure, his win at Chicago was a cool moment and it was nice to see him return to the postseason after a one-year hiatus. But a summer slump saw many pick him to be a relatively easy first-round elimination.

However, a strong five-race run from Bowman — including three top-10s — and Bowman scoring at least 26 points in every playoff race, has the veteran driver 26 points above the cut line going into the Round of 12 elimination race.

While a solid cushion, 26 points is by no means a guarantee of a transfer for Bowman — but another statistic might be.

In his five starts at the Roval, Bowman has never finished outside of the top 10, with a best finish of second at the track in 2019

If Hendrick Motorsports brings Bowman a good car, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him once more run inside the top 10.

A good finish is never a guarantee in NASCAR, but if there’s one driver-track combination where it seems like a good bet, it’s Bowman at the Roval. With a solid gap to the cut line, Bowman may be able to be more aggressive and go for the win on Sunday afternoon, depending on his points situation.

It should be noted that Bowman’s only victory of 2024 came at the Chicago Street Course, and with its tight corners and long straightaways, it may be the closest comparison to the Roval.

Bowman isn’t 100 percent guaranteed to advance to the penultimate round of the playoffs on Sunday, but he’s got a fantastic opportunity in front of him to continue a stellar playoff run.
