Dejected Kyle Busch Offers Painful Response After His Late Wreck Ruins Chance at Victory

Kyle Busch may not have qualified for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, but fans paying attention know that doesn’t mean the Richard Childress Racing driver isn’t capable of winning. Since returning from the Olympic break in mid-August, the 39-year-old has shown winning speed on multiple occasions, including a fourth at Michigan followed by back-to-back runner-up finishes at Daytona and Darlington. On Sunday at Kansas Speedway, Busch once again found himself in prime position as he battled Ross Chastain for the lead in the final stage. When the No. 8 finally made his move and surged out past the No. 1 with 63 laps remaining, Rowdy Nation started to sense the first race in the Round of 12 Playoffs just might be the one where its driver would get over the hump of his second-place results, and more importantly, extend his record streak to winning at least one race a year to 20 consecutive seasons.

“Nothing. I’m numb,” the driver candidly admitted. “I don’t know what to do.”

While he was understandably disappointed in the moment, there’s hope. The numbers show he’s been one of the top drivers in the Cup garage over the last eight races with a solid average finishing position of 12.62. More encouragingly for No. 8 fans are the upcoming tracks in the final six races of the 2024 campaign have historically been good to Busch in his Hall of Fame-worthy career. He has a total of 10 victories at the remaining circuits, including winning twice at Talladega, Homestead, and Martinsville, and three times at Phoenix.
