Chase Briscoe shocked the NASCAR world with his win to get into the playoffs over the weekend, but Kyle Petty doesn’t believe that’s the last time he’ll get to Victory Lane.
During his weekly review of the race, Petty spoke glowingly about the Southern 500 as a whole, and pointed out Briscoe and the No. 14 team could be a force in the playoffs. After a victory in Darlington, anything is possible for the Stewart-Haas Racing wheelman.
“The Southern 500. It should be the starting race of the season, the closing race of the season, the cutoff race, and we should run all 10 of the playoff races at Darlington. What a fantastic Southern 500. I’ve got nothing negative to say,” Petty said, regarding Sunday’s event. “Let me tell you something, the most dramatic race I think I’ve seen in a long, long time. Maybe the best Southern 500 I’ve ever seen. There was so much going on. Yes, yes, yes, Kyle Larson dominated, but hey, did anybody know where he went the last 10 or 15 laps? We didn’t even mention him post-race. What about that? A guy leads 200 laps at Darlington, you don’t mention him. … But in the end, where did Chase Briscoe and SHR come from?
