Reading want loan move for Championship forward

Reading are trying to sign Coventry City attacker Fabio Tavares on loan, according to a report by Football Insider.

Reading are keen on landing the forward on a temporary basis before the end of the transfer window. They have until the looming deadline this evening to strike a potential deal.

Tavares, 23, has been on the books at Coventry City since joining them in 2021 and has since made 29 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with four goals under the guidance of Mark Robins. He is under contract at the Coventry Building Society Arena until June 2025 meaning his long-term future needs to be addressed soon.

In this latest update regarding his future by Football Insider, the Royals want to bring him in over the coming hours. It has been a slow past few months on the recruitment front for the Berkshire outfit due to restrictions of their activity.

Reading eye attacker move

Tavares would be a useful addition for Reading if they were able to get him.

He would give Ruben Selles more competition and depth going forward and his possible arrival would also give their supporters something to shout about after a sleepy summer.

Tavares was born in Portugal but moved over to England as a youngster.

He started his career at Rochdale and rose up through the academy ranks of the North West outfit.

They were in the Football League as he progressed up their various different youth teams as a teenager.

Tavares was handed his first professional deal in June 2019 and made his first-team debut in September of the same year in a league fixture against Wycombe Wanderers.

He went on to play 39 matches for Rochdale as a youngster and found the net on four occasions, as well as having a loan spell away in non-league at Curzon Ashton to boost his development.

Coventry City then came in for him and he has since been in and around Robins’ team.

What next for Coventry City man?

Tavares isn’t guaranteed regular minutes with the Sky Blues so joining Reading would be a good move for him.

Time will tell whether the Royals will be able to sort something.

They were beaten 3-0 against Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground last time out and will be eager to bounce back with a positive result against in-form Charlton Athletic this weekend.
