Sheffield United set a club record fee for Celtic before they acquire Auston Trusty from Sheffield United

With transfer deadline day looming, the Celtic fans are starting to get a bit twitchy about the amount of transfer business still needing to be done by the club as time runs out.

The loan signing of Alex Valle pleased the Celtic fans yesterday and it seems that Brendan Rodgers is now making Arne Engels a transfer priority this week.

Another player who is said to be on Celtic’s radar is Sheffield United’s Auston Trusty. 67 Hail Hail discussed how Rodgers was interested in signing the United States defender in a £5m deal last week.

Since then, Celtic have made the £5m bid and according to the latest report from the Daily Record the English Championship club has knocked it back.

Sheffield United ‘want close’ to £6m from Celtic for Trusty

Celtic returned to the negotiating table for Trusty and improved their offer to £5.5m but it seems that The Blades will be willing to accept a bid close to £6m for the 26-year-old.

The report also says that a deal would need to be struck soon as work permit issues would need to be sorted in order to get the move to Celtic done. However, the permit is thought to be a formality as long as the deal is struck in time.

Trusty has been in the UK since 2022 after signing for Arsenal and has enjoyed loan spells at Colorado Rapids and Birmingham before he made a permanent move to Sheffield United last summer for an undisclosed fee.

Celtic fans set for a busy transfer finalé

After a summer of what seems like a lack of activity, it’s easy to forget that Celtic have made five additions to the squad.

The Celtic fans, however, and rightly so, want more additions to the team as there are still positions in the team that seem light in cover and in quality.

The signing of Alex Valle appeased many supporters yesterday but with Celtic having just two strikers in the building, losing Matt O’Riley and needing more quality in the wings and in the centre-back area, there is much to do for Rodgers this week.

With the Champions League draw taking place today, Brendan Rodgers will know who Celtic will face in Europe’s top competition.

For the fans though, they will hope that the club gets business done to ensure Celtic are bolstered and have enough quality about them to compete with the cream of Europe and avoid heavy defeats which have become an all too familiar event in the Champions League.
