Good News: €250k ‘concrete’ man fully returns from injury since last season
Wrexham striker Paul Mullin is making good progress
JACOB MENDY is set to make his comeback from injury for the reserves this afternoon while Paul Mullin will have a full week training.
Wing-back Mendy missed the final four games last season when Wrexham finished runners-up in League Two to secure a second promotion in a row and the Gambia international underwent surgery in the summer to mend his hamstring.
Absent for the start of the League One campaign, Mendy is due to play for the reserves today against Stoke City under 21s in a Central League fixture which is scheduled for a 1pm kick-off at Clayton Wood – the Potters’ training ground.
Reds’ boss Phil Parkinson revealed that other players yet to feature this season will also be involved.
“The ones who didn’t play in the Sheffield United cup game are playing and all the others are training,” said Parkinson.
“Jacob is playing and Anthony Forde, Billy Waters, Jake Bickerstaff and a few of the younger pros who have done well in pre-season are playing.
“We know Stoke are going to field a strong team but that’s what it is all about.
“We want to give these lads a really good work-out and in particular Jacob who has had a long period out.
“He is back in training and it is an important game for him.
“We always felt Jacob would be close to the start of the season in terms of his training.
“But he has done really well in his rehab and we are very pleased with him.”
Star striker Mullin won’t be involved for the reserves but the Reds’ star striker is closing in on a return.
Mullin had minor spinal surgery in June and hasn’t played so far this season but although Parkinson hasn’t set a date on when the 29-year-old will be available for selection, he says the signs are good.
“Mulls is having a full week of training this week and we will assess him towards the end of the week,” added the Reds’ boss.
“His injury is absolutely fine, there are no problems with that at all.
“It is just getting him fit now and getting some more training in him combined with some fitness work.
“He’s having his mini pre-season now but each day he is progressing so we are pleased with that.”
