Wrexham secured a 0-0 draw at Bolton, keeping their unbeaten record intact.

PHIL PARKINSON says Wrexham have “earned the right” to be in League One and his players have shown they can compete at this level.

The Reds have returned to the third tier following a 19-year absence after clinching back-to-back promotions and are unbeaten after two games.

A 3-2 home win against Wycombe Wanderers on the opening day of the campaign was followed by Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Bolton Wanderers who were beaten by Oxford United in last season’s play-off final.

It has been a tough start but Parkinson feels Wrexham aren’t our of place in this division.

“We have got a lot of players who have played at this level but sometimes when you come up quickly through the divisions, it is adapting again to what is required at the next level,” said the Reds’ boss.

“You saw in the early exchanges against Bolton that we we were a little bit on the back foot but we have got to adapt quickly like we did throughout the game.

“We have got to enjoy days like this because it is a great stadium, a fantastic, famous club, and we have earned the right to be here.

“Our supporters have earned the right to be here after many years of tough times in the National League in particular, and we have got to come here and make sure we have our shoulders back and we say ‘come on, we are Wrexham, we can live on this stage’.”

Nearly 3,700 supporters made the trip to The Toughsheet Community Stadium to see Wrexham take on Bolton – one of Parkinson’s former clubs – in the first league away game of the season.

The Reds’ fans got behind their side all game and Parkinson praised the fantastic backing.

“It was brilliant support for us,” he said.

“It was a great atmosphere all round and a good occasion.

“Our travelling army were brilliant. They really got behind the lads and responded to what they were seeing on the pitch.”

Wrexham have taken four points from a possible six and Parkinson added: “We will take it, definitely.”
