Drew McIntyre Looks Back On Winning World Heavyweight Title At WWE WrestleMania 40
Drew McIntyre is a multiple-time world champion in WWE. McIntyre’s first two world title wins happened in the pandemic era, so they came in empty arenas. McIntyre finally got the moment he had been chasing at WWE WrestleMania 40. There, he defeated Seth Rollins to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
While speaking to Sam Roberts (via Notsam Wrestling), Drew McIntyre looked back on his title win. (H/t Ella Jay of Wrestling Inc. for the transcription)
“[To] win the match, that was all very, very real and it felt real because it is real,” Drew McIntyre said. “If it ever feels real with me, it’s because it is real. When I got that title, and I had the moment and I looked at it and the people were chanting ‘You deserve it’ this time instead of [me] holding the title and it’s silence in a Performance Center. [Instead of me] having that private moment I’d have in the hotel room later when the adrenaline left me in front of the world because it’s so quiet, I’m having the adrenaline filled moment of winning the world title and I lock eyes with Seth who’s also telling me ‘You deserve it’ … It was awesome.” [H/T Wrestling Inc.]
Unfortunately, McIntyre’s time as the champion was very short-lived as CM Punk attacked him, and Damian Priest cashed in his Money In The Bank contract to win the title. McIntyre has been feuding with Punk ever since.
